Trackle
March 4th, 2004I’m not sure how I missed this post from Tara.
Trackle looks like an interesting tool that tracks web sites and send them to you via e-mail (DOH!!) However, the price ($1.95 per month or $20 per year) seems a bit steep for only tracking up to 25 sites. I might have to give the 2 week trial a try.
Speaking of web site monitoring tools, for he past few weeks, Watch That Page, which I have been using for a while has started to ask for donations within their mailing of new content. For those of you that don’t know about WTP, it can monitor an unlimited number of sites (for free) and e-mail (DOH!!) the results at any point during the day (The user sets the times). While I have always touted WTP as the most effective web-based monitoring tool, the fact that it is free has always made me nervous. Now that they are asking for donations, I am more nervous than before. With a fee-based tool, at least you can be sure that there will be at least some sort of continuity. With WTP, they can take it offline whenever they please, without any liability.
So, I am always on the lookout for new tools. Again the price for Trackle seems a bit steep (I would have offered at least 50 sites for the same amount of money), but if WTP closes, I might have to pay for my monitoring (sigh). That said, I am sending in a donation to WTP.
BTW, to save you the displeasure of sending Trackle to your e-mail client, start a bloglines account, set up an e-mail address, and have the content delivered there. I’ve done that for WTP and am thrilled with the results. It’s just like having feeds for sites that, unfortunately, don’t provide them.
