Jessamyn has always done a good job in marketing herself. Today, she added an FAQ to her weblog. Perfect. I might just take her idea and create an FAQ of my own…
I will be facilitating an online workshop on weblogs and RSS for Learning Times, the company that put together the successful Online Library Conference late last year. The workshop will consist of four one-hour online sessions on consecutive Tuesdays in April. The description is as follows:
“This hands-on training will explore a few of the numerous software tools that are currently being used to both publish to weblogs as well as read content via RSS. During this online workshop, the attendees will have the opportunity to post/publish to a weblog, explore the features available with the software, as well as examine content via a news aggregator. A introductory discussion of weblogs and RSS will be undertaken before participants dive into the training. If you have ever thought about creating your own weblog or utilizing an aggregator to read news but have been a bit skeptical then this training session is for you. This workshop will be a hands-on exploration of the use of weblogs and RSS primarily for professional goals. While, anyone is welcome to attend, the workshop will be taught in the context of how this can benefit the information professional and librarian. Please come with your enthusiasm, ideas, and questions. Because the workshop is online, participants can work for any Internet ready computer.”
I hope to see some of you there.
Michael, Jenny, and I are going to be “hosting” a Dine-Around at CIL. The dinner will be held on Thursday, March 11th at Bistro du Coin at 6:00PM. So far, there is no-one on our guest list, but considering Jenny will be there, I suspect it will fill up quickly.
We hope that you join us for an evening of fine wine (and other assorted drinks), French food, and titillating conversation about library weblogs. If library weblogs bore you, then just come for the booze!!
We use FOL around the office to stand for a “friend of the library”.
Almost immediately after I posted about PubSub this morning, Bob Wyman (the CTO) commented with the following note:
“Our publish/subscribe matching engine is general enough that we can do content-based filtering on just about any data feed or source. Given that you’re apparently an expert in Library Systems, can you think of any particular feeds or data-sources that would be useful to the library community?”
While I’m not an expert in library systems, I’m sure that some of the steadfast readers of LS are. So, does anyone want to take Bob up on his offer? Is there anyone doing anything exciting that cries out for his services? I’m nothing if not the messenger and the go-between guy.
BTW, I created an ego feed for myself using PubSub…I can’t wait to see the results.
