Rollup

February 19th, 2004

First, we saw Feedpapers in action. Next came Blogdigger Groups. Tonight, I stumbled across Rollup, another community based aggregator that users can personalize. It uses Feedroll to display the feeds. I created a small page with 4 feeds and the layout looks nice. Compared to the other two mentioned, this tool displays more of the text. Also, the template can be customized. And, of course, there is an Feed (which, at as this writing) does not work. I also noticed that Rollup, like the others, doesn’t grab every post from the subscribed blogs. I wonder why. Isn’t it just grabbing the feed? I hope this issue can be fixed.

I also wish that this service would supply some code (like Feedpapers does) that I could just plop down in a web page. I really want to get one of these services working on the right side of LISfeeds, but I haven’t decided which one yet. Also, I would love to be able to list the feeds by popularity (or at least give the user the option), and none of these services does that yet.

Last, I’m definitely going to show off these services at CIL when I talk about customization and personalization of RSS content.

Update - See the comments below. One of the feeds I added was messing with the code. It’s grabbing every feed now in full text (when available). Hip Hip Hooray!! So far, Rollup is a keeper.
