Blogdigger Groups (beta)
February 18th, 2004I’ve been holding my hat on this for about a month. Finally, I can release my swelled up energy about Blogdigger Groups. First, for those that don’t know about Blogdigger (a weblog search engine), take a look if you get a chance. It brings back some interesting results that don’t come back with Feedster or Waypath (Just like you shouldn’t use just one major search engine, why use only one weblog search engine?). Go ahead, throw in a keyword and grab a feed for that search.
So, Greg just rolled out Blogdigger Groups, which he describes as “A group blog is a single blog consisting of content from several other blogs. Blogdigger Groups allows you to create your own group blog, and offers several features that make the content from the group accessible in new ways.”
I have been a beta tester and started a group for librarian blogs. Notice the XML button. Yes, you can get a feed for all of the weblog posts in the group!! I’ve started to add more library feeds to the group and it should grow substantially over the next few weeks.
If you are interested in starting a group, there is a easy form to fill out. I like the fact that the groups can be public or private (the library group is public) and that they can be moderated or unmoderated (the library group is moderated by me). There are more neat features to play with, such as exporting/importing OPML and OCS (which I don’t know much about). If you decide to start a group, make sure that the feed is part of the Blogdigger database, as it won’t syndicate the site if it is not. There is a form for adding feeds.
I do have a few suggestions for Greg, but I’m going to send them to him privately. If you want to keep up with what is happening on Blogdigger, take a look at the weblog.
